The Parish Council

Wythall Parish Council is now one of the largest Parish Councils and was established in 1911. Parish Councils are the most local tier of government within England. They are no longer anything to do with the church, although they were in times past. The Parish Council is responsible for a parish, a small area normally enclosing one community.

The next tier above Wythall Parish Council is Bromsgrove District Council and above that comes Worcestershire County Council.

The parish collects money from its residents in the form of a "precept", which is added to the figures requested by the County Council, the Police Authority and the District Council and is then collected by the District Council in the council tax .

The Parish Council office is on Beaudesert Rd, next door to The Hollywood Medical Practice. There are fifteen councillors plus a Clerk and an Assistant  both of whom are paid employees of the council.

HISTORY OF WYTHALL PARISH COUNCIL

At the second meeting of the Parish Council it was agreed to precept twelve pounds and ten shillings to cover the anticipated expenditure for the year! Sir Theodore Pritchett was known at the first meeting as `Assistant Overseer' and thereafter became know as Clerk to the Council.  The Parish Council opened its offices in Silver Street in 1993, in 2007 the Parish Council Offices moved to Beaudesert Rd next to the new Doctors Surgery.
